God is mocking them, and allowing them more slack to wander blindly in their insolence.
اللَّهُ يَسْتَهْزِئُ بِهِمْ وَيَمُدُّهُمْ فِي طُغْيَانِهِمْ يَعْمَهُونَ
al-lahu yastahzi-u bihim wayamudduhum fī ṭugh'yānihim yaʿmahūna

- God will requite them for their mockery, and will leave them for a while in their overweening arrogance, blindly stumbling to and fro:

- [But] Allāh mocks them and prolongs them in their transgression [while] they wander blindly.
