Quran 22:12 — Al-Hajj, verse 12

Instead of God, they call upon what can neither harm nor help them- that is straying far away-
يَدْعُو مِنْ دُونِ اللَّهِ مَا لَا يَضُرُّهُ وَمَا لَا يَنْفَعُهُ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ هُوَ الضَّلَالُ الْبَعِيدُ
yadʿū min dūni l-lahi mā lā yaḍurruhu wamā lā yanfaʿuhu dhālika huwa l-ḍalālu l-baʿīdu

- [By behaving thus,] he invokes, instead of God, something that can neither harm nor benefit him: [and] this is indeed the utmost one can go astray.

- He invokes instead of Allāh that which neither harms him nor benefits him. That is what is the extreme error.
