It would have been better for them if they had waited patiently for you to come out to them but God is all forgiving and merciful.
وَلَوْ أَنَّهُمْ صَبَرُوا حَتَّىٰ تَخْرُجَ إِلَيْهِمْ لَكَانَ خَيْرًا لَهُمْ ۚ وَاللَّهُ غَفُورٌ رَحِيمٌ
walaw annahum ṣabarū ḥattā takhruja ilayhim lakāna khayran lahum wal-lahu ghafūrun raḥīmun

- And if they had patience, until thou comest out to them, that would be better for them; and God is All-forgiving, All-compassionate.

- for, if they had the patience [to wait] until thou come forth to them [of thine own accord], it would be for their own good. Still, God is much forgiving, a dispenser of grace.

- And if they had been patient until you [could] come out to them, it would have been better for them. But Allāh is Forgiving and Merciful.
