Those who exert themselves do so for their own benefit––God does not need His creatures––
وَمَنْ جَاهَدَ فَإِنَّمَا يُجَاهِدُ لِنَفْسِهِ ۚ إِنَّ اللَّهَ لَغَنِيٌّ عَنِ الْعَالَمِينَ
waman jāhada fa-innamā yujāhidu linafsihi inna l-laha laghaniyyun ʿani l-ʿālamīna

- Whosoever struggles, struggles only to his own gain; surely God is All-sufficient nor needs any being.

- Hence, whoever strives hard [in God’s cause] does so only for his own good: for, verily, God does not stand in need of anything in all the worlds!

- And whoever strives only strives for [the benefit of] himself. Indeed, Allāh is Free from need of the worlds.
