Quran 29:3 — Al-Ankaboot, verse 3

We tested those who went before them: God will certainly mark out which ones are truthful and which are lying.
وَلَقَدْ فَتَنَّا الَّذِينَ مِنْ قَبْلِهِمْ ۖ فَلَيَعْلَمَنَّ اللَّهُ الَّذِينَ صَدَقُوا وَلَيَعْلَمَنَّ الْكَاذِبِينَ
walaqad fatannā alladhīna min qablihim falayaʿlamanna l-lahu alladhīna ṣadaqū walayaʿlamanna l-kādhibīna

- We certainly tried those that were before them, and assuredly God knows those who speak truly, and assuredly He knows the liars.

- Yea, indeed, We did test those who lived before them; and so, [too, shall be tested the people now living: and] most certainly will God mark out those who prove themselves true, and most certainly will He mark out those who are lying.

- But We have certainly tried those before them, and Allāh will surely make evident those who are truthful, and He will surely make evident the liars.
