Quranic root

ذرو

dh · r · w

The root is associated with two orientations: something elevated or overhanging, and something falling or being scattered apart.

The scattering orientation extends to windborne dispersal, winnowing, and scattered remnants; the elevated orientation extends to tops, humps, and sheltering protection. These root-level developments do not apply as direct meanings to every derived form.

Cautions

Points that affect how this root should be read.

  • The Quranic interpretation of ذَارِيَاتِ includes literal and figurative readings; these are retained as interpretive applications of the scattering sense rather than separate lexical forms.

  • The Lane Quran citation for الذَّارِيَاتٌ uses historical citation notation; the modern location 51:1:1 is used here only because it is independently supplied by QAC.

  • Classical sources report variant relationships with ذَرَأَ and disputed or less-approved forms, including ذَرِيَّةٌ for the hunter's decoy camel and ذَرْوُ النَّارِ; these are kept as qualified Classical evidence.
